Space exploration will soon experience a big boom, says the new holder of the “Austrian Nobel Prize”

Slovak astrophysicist Norbert Werner had an extraordinary week in the second half of March. On Monday, he watched the launch of the Soyuz rocket carrying the first nanosatellite for detection of gamma-ray bursts into orbit, on which he participated in the development. Just four days later, he received the Ignaz L. Lieben Award, also known as the ‘Austrian Nobel Prize’.

The botanical garden has opened its gates

We are very happy to announce that, since Monday April 12 2021, the outdoor part of our Botanical Garden has been opened to the public once again! Opening times are from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on weekdays (we are closed on weekends). The botanical garden is only accessible through the gate on Veveří Street.

A new scholarship programme

From April 1, 2021, the Faculty of Science is launching a new scholarship programme to support doctoral students’ mobilities. Outgoing students can now apply for a scholarship of up to CZK 100,000.

Scientists developed a microfluidic platform that may contribute to the effectiveness of synthesizing pharmaceuticals or training artificial intelligence

The Loschmidt laboratories team at RECETOX and Department of Experimental Biology (Masaryk University, Faculty of Science) led by Prof. Zbynek Prokop, together with colleagues from ETH Zurich, recently developed a new microfluidic platform for rapidly and effectively investigating enzymes and their properties.

Conversations about the universe - part 5

In the fifth part, we deal with the view of contemporary science on the search for life in space. As an initial novelty, we will discuss Avi Loeb's new book about the unique body of Oumuamu, which recently flew through our solar system. In the main topic, we interview a guest from the Astronomical Institute of the ASCR, Marek Skarka, who researches exoplanets.
